A thread milling cutter is a cutting tool designed to generate internal and external threads in workpiece materials via CNC helical interpolation. It mills threads by rotating and moving along a 3-axis path.
Thread milling provides superior thread finish, precise pitch control, and minimizes the risk of tool breakage in expensive workpieces. Additionally, a single tool can be used to machine different thread diameters of the same pitch.
The coating depends entirely on the workpiece. Standard coatings like AlTiN or TiAlN are highly recommended for hardened steel and alloys to improve thermal stability, reduce wear, and extend tool life.
